Pursuant to Law No. 6331 on Occupational Health and Safety; regardless of the hazard class (Less Dangerous, Dangerous, Very Dangerous) and the number of employees, all businesses with insured employees are obliged to receive OHS services. Therefore, offices, apartments or retail stores in the less hazardous class are also covered by the legal obligation

Your hazard class is determined according to the NACE code at the beginning of your workplace's SSI registration number. Sürmen OSGB experts analyze your NACE code and inform you that your company is in the “Less Dangerous”, “Dangerous” or “Very Dangerous” class.

If there are insured employees such as janitors, gardeners or security guards in apartment buildings, it is mandatory to have a risk analysis and emergency plan. Depending on the number of employees and hazard class, the obligation to appoint a specialist/physician may vary.

If occupational health and safety services are not provided, the ministry imposes exponentially higher administrative fines per employee and for each month of continued non-compliance. In addition, in the event of a work accident, the employer may face severe legal and criminal sanctions.

Occupational Safety Specialist (OSS)

Occupational safety specialist, rehberlik yapar, risk değerlendirmesi hazırlar, çalışma ortamı gözetimi yapar, iş kazalarını araştırır, acil durum planlarını yönetir ve çalışanlara İSG eğitimleri verir.

In workplaces classified as less hazardous, the occupational safety specialist must be at least one per employee per month. 10 minutes provides services.

In workplaces classified as very dangerous, the occupational safety specialist must be at least one per employee per month. 40 minutes provides services.

Specialists are divided according to their certification classes. Class (C) is Less Hazardous, Class (B) is Hazardous and Less Hazardous, Class (A) can look at all hazard classes (including Very Hazardous).

No. The specialist visits your workplace at set intervals to complete the calculated monthly service period.

It is an official notarized or İşkur-approved notebook in which the occupational safety expert writes down the deficiencies and solution suggestions in the workplace. The items written here by the expert are deemed to have been “notified” to the employer. It is vital to keep this book regularly as it is a legal evidence.

No, it is not. By law, the employer is always responsible for occupational health and safety. The occupational safety expert is obliged to provide “technical guidance” to the employer. The employer is responsible for implementing the expert's recommendations.

Yes. In planned or unplanned inspections to be carried out by the inspectors of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the occupational safety specialist we assign to your company is present and manages the process of submitting the necessary technical documents.

In places with 50 or more employees and where work is carried out for more than 6 months, it is obligatory to establish an OHS Board. The occupational safety specialist is a permanent member of this board and ensures that decisions are taken in accordance with the legislation by carrying out the secretariat of the board.

Yes, it is mandatory. It is the person who conveys the views of the employee about the risks in the workplace to the management. Our occupational safety specialist organizes the selection or appointment processes of the employee representative and provides special training to the representative.

Occupational Medicine and Health Services

For those who will work in hazardous and very hazardous jobs, the health report for employment can only be obtained from OSGB workplace physicians. Reports obtained from family physicians are not valid.

“Other Health Personnel must be employed in workplaces classified as ”Very Dangerous" and employing 10 or more employees.

In very dangerous class; 10 min/person for 10-49 employees, 15 min/person for 50-249 employees, 20 min/person for 250+ employees.

It is checking whether the health status of employees who have been away from work due to work accident or illness is suitable for work before they return to work. Legally, it is done at the request of the employer or at the request of the employee, but for a safe working environment, we strongly recommend that it be done for long-term report returns (especially 21 days and over).

The occupational physician suspects an occupational disease during health surveillance of the employee. The definitive diagnosis is made by Occupational Diseases Hospitals or University Hospitals authorized by the Ministry of Health. Our physician manages this referral and follow-up process.

Yes. In the health report of the personnel who will work at night, the physician must specifically state the phrase “Suitable for night work”. Our physician makes this decision based on the employee's sleep patterns, blood pressure and general health status.

Yes. Our workplace physicians use the “E-Prescription” system integrated into the SSI Medula system. After the examination, the necessary medications are prescribed electronically, and the employee can take the medication from the pharmacy with his/her T.R. ID number.

Trainings and Certificates

Evet, her çalışanın işe başlamadan önce ve belirli periyotlarla Temel İş Sağlığı ve Güvenliği eğitimi alması yasal zorunluluktur.

Trainings should be renewed once a year (16 hours) in very dangerous class, once every 2 years (12 hours) in dangerous class, once every 3 years (8 hours) in less dangerous class.

There should be 1 certified first assistant for every 20 employees in less dangerous workplaces, 1 certified first assistant for every 15 employees in dangerous workplaces and 1 certified first assistant for every 10 employees in very dangerous workplaces.

Employees working in hazardous and very hazardous jobs must have a certificate approved by the Vocational Qualifications Authority for their work.

Fire drills and emergency evacuation drills should be conducted at least once a year.

It is mandatory for personnel working in all areas where there is a level difference and there is a possibility of injury as a result of a fall to receive “Working at Height Training”.

No, the two are different. Induction Training (Orientation) is a practical training of at least 2 hours that must be given on the day the employee starts work. Basic OHS training is a certified general training. Sürmen OSGB experts ensure the follow-up and organization of both processes.

No, it does not. An operator's certificate (Class G Driver's License or VQA Certificate) authorizes you to use that machine. OHS training includes general safety rules in the workplace. Both are mandatory separately.

Yes. In addition to long trainings, we keep the safety culture alive by providing short, 10-15 minute, topic-oriented (e.g. “Today we are talking about ladder safety”) briefings with employees during our site visits.

Absolutely. At the end of all organized trainings, an exam is held and the successful participants are issued a “Training Participation Certificate” (Certificate) signed by our expert and the employer, valid for legal audits, and delivered to be placed in their personal files.

Emergencies and Risk Management
